Rule number one - remember the fundamentals

1. Sights, stance, breathe, grip.... the fundamentals of accuracy in shooting a gun. If you are not hitting the target, or not fast enough... your fundamentals are off and you need to get back to basics. No matter how advanced you get.... these four rules will carry you through.

What are our life fundamentals? How do we know when we are missing the target? When do we stop and realize that our shot was WAY off? And when it is... how do we get back to where we are supposed to be?

Right now I am realizing again how progress IS formed in our mind. Strongholds are broken and passions are released in an instant. Victory is won. But we MUST keep our sight in focus, we must stand firm, knees slightly bent, release our breathe at just the right moment, and grip our weapon with the perfect amount of firmness and stability. Or all bets are off.

I used to think life was all about where I was going. I thought that as long as I had my goals in mind than I would get there. Woops! Painfully, some of my goals have been missed. It only took me 34 years to recognize that concept was FLAWED!  (sarcastic eye roll) I now believe that life is ALL about process. There is more in achievement than merely staring at a bulls-eye.

I think that we get our sights off and "suffer" consequences and act like it is meant to be. When our sights our too tight and the target moves, we shoot, we miss. When we stand with locked knees, inflexible to terrain, our bullet flies askew  - our balance is off. We take a few moments to process and then say that it was fate, or God, or a lesson. We say that THIS was really the correct plan for our life. We are "thankful in all things" and maneuver as if we hit the target.

Why don't we question it? Why don't we figure out what we did wrong and come back to center? It doesn't take too long before we are so far off that one would fail to recognize the original plan.

We run through life hurtling our intentions at anything that catches our interest. We learn to go by our emotions, we chase what feels good, react to what doesn't, seek copious amounts of pleasure, and say that God is a loving God.  Middle finger raised. And we expect to have results. Good results.
What happened to living by a code? Acknowledging that we must always keep our fundamentals strong? With out judgement I must observe that most of us have forgotten our basic laws.

I must admit that I used to be an excellent shot. I had to be. I was paid to be an excellent shot.  But I haven't been practicing. How do you think I would do?

I do not intend to sound drill sergeant firm ... But I do believe that we need to return to our foundation. It is time to improve our accuracy once more. It is time to reevaluate how many times we hit the target and stop acting as if the life we are living is in fact the master plan.

Will you join me in practicing hitting the target?

What are YOUR fundamentals? I would like to know.
