An honest look at one of my strengths

I have an uncanny ability to look at any situation and see what needs fixin', make a plan and implement it. It is fun to me. As a visionary I am able to see the broad picture and then narrow an effective path to a successful end. I am beginning now to see the results of a lot of hard work in my current position. I have been there a year. In ways it has been grueling. The success of deliberate decisions are becoming evident daily. In my area of direct leadership, of course, but also in my sphere of influence.

How to win friends and influence people was an instrumental book in helping me learn to communicate diplomatically to reach a desired end. I am now fine tuning my ability to be fully honest with out raising a defensive edge in my peers or subordinates. Listening is a wonderful tool. Affirmations are even better.

This morning in director level meeting I was able to lead a discussion on team-building and introduce new strategies that I have implemented in my department. Concrete examples with percentages validated our claim that a change was necessary and is being well received, achieving desired results. I have 600 people who are directly affected by my leadership. The process is slow, especially for a girl like me who likes to run the mountain trail, but satisfying.

I get frustrated when I see potential and watch human behavior stand in the way. I am a work in progress; learning to use that frustration as a motivator not discouragement as I walk the tedious day to day. Results speak for themselves. The more I stay focused on the objectives the less time I spend mired in the ebb and flow. The process is just as important as the goal. While change is being affected by me I am, also, growing by leaps and bounds.

Using a clear voice with unemotional clarity to highlight a negative cycle is a new concept at my place of employment. Only recently are co-workers able to trust that my words come from a safe place and have a foundation of logic not angst. It is changing their interactions with each other as well. I sit back and watch, amused, as it is happening with out their cognitive knowledge.

Delicious!
