It is so easy to get carried away by the expectations around us. Take a moment to pause and consider all the things you are hoping for, wishing for, working for. Why? What is the reason? What is the goal? Why is that legitimate to you?
We absorb, see, listen, compare and act without ever stopping to ask if it is the right thing. The best thing. For ourselves and those around us.
Who makes the rules? The standards? Who sets the bar? Who tells us where to go and how to do it?
Culture shifts and changes and we spirit along with it as if the best practice of today will produce what we ultimately desire tomorrow. We hope it will. We are told it will. So we do it. Even if it collides with that little voice inside. How often do we silence our true selves to “get in alignment” with today’s emergent trend?
We see others getting the results promised, expected, the ones we so desperately want; so we can fit in, be admired, not be different.
We mimic and practice. Forgetting that each of our journeys is unique to us. We act like we are on our own journey while we do exactly what is expected... exactly. School right, work right, money right, buy right, look right, act right, talk right.
Stop. For God's sake, stop right now. Listen to your inner wisdom.
Why are we doing what we are doing?
If I do something different than you, will you really care? If you look different than me.... am I threatened? If I have different goals and a different path, does that make me better - or worse than you? If I have a smaller sphere, am I less important? If I live by my values, different than yours, can our lives be complementary? If I look at my own strengths and bring them forward, will you turn away?
Isn't it time that we stop listening to the noise and begin to hear ourselves?
We are all exactly what we need to be. We have resources around us and the ability to process, filter, and apply the wisdom of the ages. We have all we need for the decision of today.
Trust. Trust that we will know and grow with each passing day. Trust that as we listen to your inner knowing and walk our best path, that this world will be better than we could ever imagine.
If I have one wish for the new year, it would be to see us all look beyond societal expectations, into our own souls and choose to be TRUE. I wish that we bring our true selves out in the open and not care what we are "supposed" to be doing? That we let our goodness leak out and splash the world. That we accept others exactly where they were... acknowledge every story, embrace divergence, and open our hearts.
