I really think we are genuine in our pursuit of leadership, just sorely misaligned. Somewhere along the way, we began a quest based on an insatiable soul hunger to assuage our fears. A cultural buffet was offered and we ate, we eat, and we keep eating.
It all tastes so good. Feels so good. Has just the right amount of self-deprivation to have us believe we are healthy, appropriately lithe.
Deception crept upon us slowly, seductively, stealthily.
We never stop to consider.
But...
Will you stop and consider? Pull away? Pause? Find your inner silence?
When you do, will you ask yourself:
Why do you do what you do?
Why do you want what you want?
Where are you going?
Why?
We need to find our own way through our unknowns. We need to access authenticity alone, out of sight. And when we do, we find an inner source of knowledge. Pure acceptance. Our spirit takes a deep breath. And from it flows the deepest sense of strength. We find our true selves.
And the ugly we feared melts into beauty.
We feel planted, sure of our place in the world. We own our significance. A slow and long embrace ensues.
And the sigh that escapes our lips is one of deep knowing.
In this place, we find our deepest quest. Wisdom buds. Humility flowers. Fruit grows and feeds those around us. Quietly. Responsively.
We see that power corrupts so we begin to seek impact, service.
Our hands open.
Our heart softens.
Our influence grows, but we don't notice. Our interest is now in BEING, not being seen.
It is in LIVING not leading.
Gently we realize that all of the moments matter. That showing up makes all the difference.
One day we turn around and we see that humanity is all around us... in us, in front, behind, and shoulder to shoulder.
We bask in light all around, grateful to be amongst the living.
