I have been reflecting on simplicity lately.
Simplicity seems to be the buzz word of the era, the ever elusive mantra we all seek to describe our lives.
I believe that for life to be truly simple preparation, intentionality, and follow through is needed. Not just needed; required.
That is not simple.
At All.
Anything truly simple took WORK to achieve; take interior design for example, fashion, an easy to navigate website, or child rearing.
It is my observation that human nature longs for order. Chaos internally antagonizes. Simple is the antithesis to chaos. Thus, SIMPLICITY becomes our aim.
Our quest for simplicity is actually a longing for predictability and security. For a grid.
We set up internal laws in which we can abide. Our comfort zones. Our safe. Our ways. How we function. And we work hard to fine tune them.
It is why we try so hard. I think that all that we do can be traced back to our internal level of sanity and to our quest for simplicity.
With out preparation, intentionality and follow through.... do we ever get close to simple?
We do what we need to do to keep those around us happy.
Simple.
We don't walk barefoot on rocks.
Simple.
We eat. or not.
Simple.
We stay in stress
Simple.
We avoid ripples. And sometimes the truth.
simple.
We smile. and nod.
Simple.
We do what is expected.
Simple.
But is it really?
Is our eternal pursuit of external order our way of avoiding internal chaos?
We fantasize about mastery of self and life. We envy the people from the stories where seeming freedom and simplicity has been achieved. Where balance is evident.
For me, simple is knowing myself and doing everything I can to be true. And working my butt off for it.
Webster can't describe that.
What is your simple?

Yeahh! Knowing yourself and being true to it. Be real to passion and to pain. Fully embrace joy, but not ignoring sorrow. Living in the moment while having big dreams and setting goals. Simple is being true to the core of your being. It's not something we stumble upon. I agree, it must be desired, it must be worked for.
ReplyDeleteI love being part of your simple and you part of mine!
